Obituary
Howard Roy Everett, lovingly known to all as Roy, of Pittsburgh, PA was born July 10, 1942, in PA. He was the beloved second oldest son of six children born to the late William and Addy (Green) Everett.
In Roy’s youth, his family settled in West Mifflin, PA spending almost as much time in Smithdale, PA where he shared many memorable moments with extended family and friends. Among one of his favorite memories were the delicious desserts made by his beloved grandmother known as Sweetie. Roy also had a love for sports in which he played many including running track, boxing, tennis, bowling, and baseball. Even though he was known for his talents on the football field the sport that Roy enjoyed the most was basketball. Oftentimes over the years, he would attend multiple sporting events. One of his favorite pastimes throughout his life was walking the trails of South Park where he was a recognizable face to many.
After graduating from Duquesne High School in 1960 Roy entered the United States Air Force in which he served four years as an MP before he was honorably discharged. Upon his return home, Roy obtained a job at US Steel where he worked for a few years before finishing his 34 year career at General Motors. After Roy retired he became an avid bike rider, often riding the Boston Trail back to Smithdale. Retirement also allotted Roy more time to spend with his daughters and grandchildren. Oftentimes they would visit Round Hill Farm, Jim’s Hot Dog, and have many movies, dinner, and ice cream dates. The most cherished times were the family dinners, birthday celebrations, and holidays spent at Margaret’s house, who he playfully nicknamed Tiny.
At the forefront of Roy’s life guiding his path was his Christian faith. This dedication led to him becoming a deacon, being a member of the men’s choir, and many other church activities throughout his lifetime. After living a full life on November 4th, 2022 in McCandless, PA at the age of 80 Roy peacefully transitioned surrounded by the love of his daughters, grandchildren, and Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, father, William Everett, mother, Addy (Green) Everett, brother, Roger Everett, sister, Patricia Everett.
Roy is survived by his two daughters who he loved dearly, Tramaine Nelson (Vincent) and Kelli Everett; Stepson, James Manns; nine grandchildren: Lardycia, Rotley, Malia, Robert, Gabrielle, Vincent Jr. William, Dominic, and one little blessing on the way, great-grandchild, Alessandro; two sisters, Donna Hillard, Bernadine Everett; brother, Gary Everett; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Roy was truly a great man who lived a life of faith, high moral standards, and an endless amount of love for his daughters and grandchildren. An amazing father and even better grandfather!
