Regina Helen Thompson, a beacon of love and strength, departed this earthly realm on May 12th, 2024, at her home in Clairton, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the warmth of her family's embrace.
Regina Born on September 21, 1931, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, she was the eldest daughter of Jesse Sr. and Anne E. (Johnson) Young. Regina's journey on this earth spanned over 92 years, during which she touched countless lives with her grace and compassion.
Regina's life was marked by resilience and dedication. As the eldest daughter sibling of eight, she shouldered responsibilities with grace and determination from a young age. After moving to Clairton, she embarked on the noble task of raising her six children as a single mother, working tirelessly in various roles to provide for her family.
Regina's commitment to education was unwavering, despite leaving high school after the 11th grade. She instilled in her children the value of learning, and they honored her legacy by pursuing higher education, achieving remarkable academic success with three bachelor’s degrees in education, Civil Engineering, and Clinical Social Work as well as three master’s degrees in education, Organizational Management & Leader, and MBA-Project Management.
A woman of deep faith, Regina was baptized and found solace in her spiritual community. Throughout her life, she served in various leadership roles, embodying the principles of service and integrity. Her dedication extended beyond her family to her broader community, where she served as a voting booth supervisor and Sergeant of Arms for the George Washington Carver Housing Authority, leaving an indelible mark on those around her.
In her leisure time, Regina found joy in simple pleasures—painting, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. These moments of quiet reflection brought her immense happiness and allowed her to express her creativity.
Regina's legacy of love and devotion lives on through her children: Arthur I. Young, William E. Smith (Army Veteran), Paul Thompson, Lieutenant Colonel (Army, Retired) Maurice E. Gissendanner, and Keely L. Thompson. Her memory is cherished by her six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Lucille Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends, who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
As Regina ascends to her heavenly home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith. Though she may be gone from our sight, her memory will continue to illuminate our lives, guiding us with her gentle spirit and enduring love.
