Norma Jean Hairston, 70, of Clairton, was born March 26, 1956, in Martinsville, VA. She was the beloved daughter of the late Benjamin Hairston and Ida Clanton Hairston. She came to Clairton, PA at the age of two and was raised by her grandparents, Freida and Theodore Prilliman.
Norma attended and graduated from Clairton High School. She later attended CCAC and graduated with a degree in Child and Family Studies. Norma had various occupations beginning with multiple positions at US Steel Clairton Works. She then moved on to open her own business, Little People Daycare Family Center, which she operated for 44 years. She had a passion for children especially those she fostered.
Norma, affectionately known as NaNa, was given that name by her first grandchild, but the name stuck with her to present day. She is now known as NaNa by all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as all of the children that came under her care through the daycare and beyond. In between caring for her own children and running the daycare, Norma also worked part-time for Gaydos Security as an armed security officer.
Norma was a very outgoing woman, who loved fashion. She dabbled in fashion modeling in her younger years, but shopping was her thing! She loved going on shopping trips to New York. As she got older, she shopped more locally in store and online. She always dressed the part for any occasion. Norma enjoyed playing recreational sports such as softball, volleyball, swimming and bowling just to name a few. Norma also had a passion for singing and a powerful voice. During a talent show in her teenage years, she shattered glass while hitting a high note. Her voice also afforded an opportunity for her to sing with a group in New York, but due to the strict parenting of her grandmother she was not able to attend. She later became a member of the band, "Stop, Look and Listen" and performed for various audiences. She gave her life to the Lord and continued singing in various choirs. Singing the Lord's praises was something she instilled in her children from a young age. Norma's number one priority was her children and grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She supported and attended all of their sporting events and accomplishments. She was their number one cheerleader. Norma was about her family!
Norma was a member of Kingdom Come Ministries in Clairton, PA for over 20 years, where she served on the usher board and the praise and worship team.
Norma departed this life peacefully on April 25, 2026, at her home in Clairton, PA. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Theodore and Freida Prilliman; father, Benjamin Hairston and mother, Ida Clanton Hairston; sister, Elnora Hairston, brother, Roy Hairston, grandchildren, Philese Clifford, Kendrieah Ogletree, and Kenlein Ogletree.
