Joan Leslie Luckey was born on September 12, 1948, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Joan was the cherished daughter of the late Hilary Luckey and Lillian Baldwin Luckey, who instilled in her the values of faith, perseverance, and love for family.
She received her education in the Clairton School District and proudly graduated from Clairton High School in 1966. Following her education, Joan devoted many years of faithful service to Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she was known for her strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to excellence. After leaving Westinghouse, she lovingly became the caregiver for her parents until their death. She later continued her professional life as a secretary at the law office of Attorney Burrell Brown. Joan had a servant’s heart and generously volunteered countless hours assisting others by providing transportation to medical appointments and helping with grocery shopping.
Joan was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church on January 5, 1959, at the age of eleven, by the late Reverend Joseph McCoy, and remained a devoted member for 67 years. During her youth, she was actively involved in Junior Church and sang in the Junior Church Choir. As an adult, she continued her ministry of music as a soprano in both the Inspirational Choir and the Gimme A Break Choir. Joan’s commitment to Christian education was demonstrated through her faithful leadership in Sunday School, where she served as Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Treasurer. In February 2024, she was honored by the church with the Unsung Hero Award in recognition of her unwavering service and dedication.
Joan was a lifelong resident of Clairton, Pennsylvania, and remained deeply committed to her community. She was a member of the NAACP in Clairton, serving as Secretary, volunteered with the Clairton Emergency Food Bank, participated in Crime Watch, and attended the Citizen Police Academy in 2016. She also served as the past president of the Friends Group of the Clairton Public Library.
Joan was known to all who met her as a woman with a beautiful spirit, easy to be around, fun-loving, loyal, and full of warmth. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any room, along with a kind and compassionate heart that always looked out for others. Joan deeply loved God, her family, and friends. She lived her life in service and love. Joan peacefully entered eternal rest on February 10, 2026, at Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania.
Left to cherish her loving memory are her brothers, Gregory Luckey of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and Hilary (Dora) Luckey, Jr. of Palms, California; Niece, Amber Luckey; along with a host of relatives, church family, and dear friends who will forever treasure her life, laughter, love, and legacy.
