Celebration of Life for Charles Lavender May (1951 – 2026)
Mr. Charles Lavender May, 75, lovingly known to family as “Poochie,” of Denver, Co., departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on June 27, 2026, at Denver Health Medical Center.
Charles was born on January 18, 1951, to his late parents, Charles Martin and Rebecca Thompkins May, at McKeesport Hospital, McKeesport, PA. He became disabled from a car accident at an early age but graduated from Clairton High School and attended Allegheny Community College in West Mifflin, PA.
Charles loved traveling and visited many states. He enjoyed U.S. history (he knew the names of every First Lady from Martha to Melania), music (especially Chaka Khan), sports (he was especially tough on his Pittsburgh teams), classic movies, cooking, and his “PBR.” Most of all, he cherished the company of his family and friends. After working in food service, he retired and settled in Denver to be near his youngest sister Carolyn and her family. He was planning a trip to visit family members prior to his passing.
Along with his parents, Charles is pre-deceased by his brother John Eddie May, his sister Mary Emma May, his Aunt Lucille Taulton, cousin Betty Thompkins-Johns, and brother-in-law Charles A. Roberts. He leaves to cherish his memory, devoted sisters Joyce May Roberts, Carolyn May McDougald; nephews Darrell (“Dee Dee”) Roberts, Donald (“Don Don”) Roberts, Marland R. May, DeShawn McDougald, Pedro May, Shannon McDougald, and Tuan Bain; niece Shayla McDougald; great-nieces Marlonna May, Jaismane Niacaris, Shawnmonique McDougald, and Zion Wanzo May; great-nephew Donald C. Roberts, II, A special thank you to our Cousin Beverly Smith whose love and dedication means more than words can say; life-long friend Arthur “Pape” Young; and a host of other family and friends.
