Edgar R. Smart, 85, of Sutersville, died on Sunday, May 24, 2026 in Grandview Estates. Born in Elizabeth on July 14, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Gephart) Smart.
Edgar was an officer of the Pennsylvania State Police. He also worked as a die maker for General Motors. He was an avid softball player and loved spending time outdoors, hiking, bicycling and canoeing, as well as riding quads and side by sides.
He honorably served in the US Navy.
He is survived by his children, Edgar (Shelby) Smart Jr., Terri Lynn (Fred) Straps and Douglas (Kim) Smart; grandchildren, Zachary, Kaitlyn, Lauren and Sammy; and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as his dear friend and companion of 42 years, Terri Lechman, who with her family, gave both love and compassion to Edgar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings.
The family would like to thank both the staff of Grandview Estates and OSPTA Hospice for all of their compassion and care.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 27 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) https://www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 12 PM.
Private Interment Services will be held in Round Hill Cemetery.
